2025: Tamara Klink completes a solo transit of the Northwest Passage
Aboard her sailboat Sardinha 2, Tamara sailed 6,500 km alone from Greenland to Alaska through the Arctic Ocean, along a route once permanently locked in ice. After 60 days at sea, she became the youngest woman — and the first person from Latin America — to complete this legendary crossing, 120 years after Roald Amundsen.
She faced extreme and highly technical conditions, including:
-
navigating remote and sparsely charted waters,
-
icebergs and drifting sea ice,
-
encounters with polar bears,
-
rapidly shifting weather, strong currents, and violent winds,
-
sleeping in 20-minute cycles.
Her expedition underscores the rapid retreat of Arctic sea ice, encountered it on only 9% of the route.
Following her voyage, Tamara took part in COP30 (UNFCCC) to share her experience and advocate for the protection of sea ice with global leaders. And she plans to develop a book and a documentary.
This project was made possible by the sponsorship of Itaú Bank and NTT Data.
